It was bound to happen eventually. Not only was this race won by Martin Truex, a guy we always expect to see win consistently, but this race was just boring. Easily this was the least exciting race of the year with long stretches of either Logano or Truex leading.
Ryan Blaney won Stage 1, but his car never seemed to have the raw speed to keep him upfront and once he lost the lead he just slowly lost positions as the race went on to finish 10th. Despite back-to-back top tens, Blaney is still looking rough considering his two teammates were in the top five the whole day.
Joey Logano seemed to have the race in hand, but Truex’s car came alive as the race got towards the end of Stage 2. After Truex took the lead he didn’t let it go.
This was easily the worst race of the year. The race itself was not horrible, but compared to the racing we’ve seen this year it’s such a drab push back to reality. I’ve personally never been excited when NASCAR comes to Pheonix and that didn’t change today.
Unfortunately, NASCAR sees something in these races that I don’t and with this being the championship race, I guess we better get excited because this is all we have to look forward to in November.
- Quietly the Hendrick cars had strong days. Alex Bowman continues to be the weakest link in that quartet.
- Kevin Harvick corrected his issues from last week and rebounded for a top ten.
- Kyle Busch continues his struggles. His issues don’t seem to be going away anytime soon.
- Bubba Wallace was shooting for a top ten, but a poor decision on his crew chiefs part to not pit ruined any chance of that.
